CANDIDATE STATEMENT
Professional Engineers play a vital role in the economic prosperity, social advancement and environmental health of our society. Often, the respect, status, and financial reward afforded to the engineering profession by government, industry, and the general public are not commensurate with the responsibility that Professional Engineers undertake in fulfilling their important role in our communities. In this respect, OSPE’s mission of advancing the interests of the engineering profession in Ontario is critical to the future economic and social well being of Professional Engineers.

It is essential that government, industry, the public, and members of our own profession recognize OSPE as a vital organization, especially in carrying out its function of advocating on behalf of Professional Engineers. This is key to the Society effectively fulfilling its mandate of advancing the engineering profession.

As an elected member of the board, I will work to:

  • Develop strategies and policies that serve to advance both the status and economic interests of Professional Engineers in Ontario.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of the Society’s function among Professional Engineers to increase membership and build a stronger community of engineers. Together, we can enhance the profile of our great profession.
  • Develop a communications strategy that clearly defines the roles of OSPE and the PEO to Professional Engineers.
  • Strengthen the Society’s advocacy role to influence government legislation and policies to recognize the important function Professional Engineers play in protecting and enhancing the public interest in Ontario, to foster opportunities for Professional Engineers and to protect the interests of our members.
  • Promote the P.Eng. “Brand” and the value of Professional Engineering to industry and the public. In a climate of price-based selection of engineering, it is important that the profession unite to instill a business culture that promotes quality, creativity and innovation so that Professional Engineering is viewed as a value-added service that positively contributes to the long-term efficacy of projects and industries.

I am a proud member of the engineering profession and if elected, will endeavor to maximize the value that the Society generates for our members and for our profession. I respectfully ask and thank-you for your support.
