OSPE Saddened by the Tragic Loss of a Valued Member

Mark ErnstingBy now, you have heard about the tragic death of Dr. Mark Ernsting, P.Eng., a top researcher at the Ontario Institute of Cancer Research. In addition to being a Professional Engineer, and Biomedical Engineering Researcher, Mark was also a member of the choir at the Church of the Redeemer on Bloor Street in Toronto, and an Adjunct Professor at Ryerson University.  Mark was also an invaluable member of OSPE’s Research and Innovation Task Force, a tireless advocate and integral part in reframing our work on research, innovation and entrepreneurship for the engineering community.

Reading the various news coverage on Mark’s death, it’s easy for his story to be summed up as just another victim of a senseless crime, lost in a week of increased violence on Toronto’s streets. But there is much more to his story…

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark was a really, really good person who cared about his family and friends, his work, his profession, his communities, and society as a whole. He always had a smile on his face and kind words for those around him. He thought before he spoke, and when he did speak, he offered words of wisdom and encouragement. Simply put, Mark was a brilliant, courageous and visionary leader and a good friend to us at OSPE.

We consider ourselves blessed for having the good fortune of knowing you and we will ensure your legacy lives on in our work on the Research and Innovation Task Force. We will miss you Mark.

In loving memory of Dr. Mark Ernsting, P.Eng., donations can be given to his lab at the Ontario institute of Cancer Research: Drug Discovery program through a GoFundMe campaign.  https://www.gofundme.com/xtf75j2k
