This is a virtual offering that runs from 12:00-1:00 PM EDT.

Description

This session introduces learners to the concept of disability and neurodiversity, challenging the way we view disability in our society and the workplace. Disability is not a static experience and can change over time. Disability is also unique to each individual and is experienced differently by everyone.

Outcomes/Objectives: 

  • A broadening of the audience’s understanding of Disability
  • Expanding the audiences’ approach to accessibility
  • Introduction to Universal Design, Equity & Inclusion in the Workplace
  • Concrete Actions that the audience can take away.

Speaker Bio

 

Megan Pilatzke (she/her) – Inclusion Specialist, Specialisterne Canada

Megan is a proud autistic woman and member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. She was formally identified as autistic on May 19, 2021, at 31 years of age after years of struggles with mental health and misdiagnosis. As an autistic person with over 30 years of lived experience, Megan is passionate about promoting autism and neurodiversity acceptance, inclusion, and accessibility in society – particularly, in the workplace. She has been and continues to be a strong advocate and public speaker openly sharing her personal and professional insights on quality of life and supports for autistic adults, among other topics surrounding autism. Some of the places Megan has spoken at and/or collaborated with include Autism Canada, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), CBC News, CBC Radio, The Globe and Mail, and the Senate of Canada. Megan is an Inclusion Specialist with Specialisterne Canada where she works with employers to facilitate neuro-inclusion in workplaces across Canada.
