Expanding and improving transit infrastructure remains a top priority in Canada as federal, provincial and municipal governments look for ways to improve connectivity and shorten commute times. Gridlock causes environmental harm and has detrimental financial impacts, costing billions in lost productivity.
To ease the problems associated with road congestion, the Federal Budget 2017 confirmed an investment of $20.1B over 11 years for public transit projects.
With significant investments in urban transit, LRT projects are among the top 100 infrastructure projects currently underway in Canada, and are moving forward across the country in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. However, developing these complex and costly transit lines requires enormous coordinated efforts between governments, transit agencies and project companies.
