As the voice of the engineering profession, OSPE knows that enhancing labour mobility is a concern among engineers in Ontario. By increasing national mobility, Canada can boost productivity and provide the engineering workforce necessary to deliver nation-building projects across critical sectors.
To date, OSPE staff have met with the Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development David Piccini and appeared at the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
Due, in part, to OSPE’s advocacy efforts, Ontario has signed agreements with provinces and territories to create interprovincial mobility for in-demand professions, including engineers. These agreements allow Ontario engineers to move and work in other provinces and territories and vice versa.
As our advocacy on this matter evolves, OSPE is convening a constructive, solutions-focused discussion on national engineering licensing and mobility and we’re seeking OSPE members with practical insights to help inform OSPE’s policy position and advocacy.
Who we’re looking for
- Fully licensed engineers (P.Eng.) in one or more Canadian provinces/territories
- Preferred: Experience working across provinces/territories (e.g., interprovincial projects, multiple licences, mobility/permits)
- Diverse practice areas welcome (infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, consulting, public sector, academia, etc.)
What you’ll do
- Join a small roundtable to share real-world experiences (barriers, what works, ideas to streamline mobility while protecting the public)
- Review a short briefing in advance; contribute to a concise recommendations memo
How to express interest (by September 22)
Please email advocacy@ospe.on.ca with the subject “National Licensing Roundtable – EOI” and include:
- Name, role, organization (if applicable)
- Province(s)/territory(ies) of licensure and years of experience
- Brief note on interprovincial work (projects, permits, mobility experiences)
- Sector(s) & specialties; languages (English/French)
- Any potential conflicts of interest or affiliations relevant to licensing policy
Selection & timing
- We’ll assemble a balanced group (practice areas, regions, career stages).
- Sessions will be scheduled for late September/early October (virtual); ~90 minutes.
OSPE values a respectful, evidence-based dialogue. If you’ve navigated licensing across jurisdictions -or have frontline insights on mobility- we want to hear from you.
