By focusing on ethical use, education, and practical applications, the group aims to ensure that AI enhances the engineering profession in meaningful ways.

The key objectives include

  • Facilitating understanding of AI’s potential benefits and risks within engineering.
  • Developing best practices for AI integration in engineering projects, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and ethics.
  • Offering recommendations on cost implications, ethical considerations, and leadership strategies.
  • Producing educational resources to help engineers learn about and apply AI responsibly.
  • Advocating for industry-wide education and the promotion of responsible AI usage.

With the AI 101 series, the Task Force will continue to produce frameworks for the ethical use of AI in engineering to guide professionals and policymakers.

Task Force Chair

Paul is an Executive Business Partner at AltaML with over two years of experience leading applied AI initiatives for municipal and provincial governments. Committed to fostering transparency and collaboration in responsible AI, he holds a Master of Management of AI from Queen’s University, a Master’s in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. Paul excels in managing complex projects across sectors, leveraging machine learning and product management to deliver impactful solutions. Prior to joining AltaML he led engineering and technology projects in industrial, healthcare, and commercial environments.
