At OSPE, we believe that advancing the engineering profession is a shared responsibility and that real change happens when we work together. We are proud to announce the release of the updated Fee Guidelines for the Engineering Profession, a resource created with engineers, for engineers, and designed to help ensure fair, consistent, and transparent fees across the sector.
This update was no small effort. OSPE played a key role in facilitating the process, bringing together a diverse group of volunteers, engineers, business owners, leaders, and practitioners who generously shared their time, expertise, and feedback to shape this document. Together, we’ve created guidelines that reflect the realities and complexities of modern engineering practice.
But having guidelines is only part of the solution. We need the entire profession to stand behind them.
When one engineer or firm undercuts these guidelines and charges less, it doesn’t just affect their project; it damages the value of the entire profession. It erodes public trust, diminishes the perceived worth of engineering services, and makes it harder for all engineers to secure fair compensation. Upholding these guidelines is about more than pricing, it’s about professional pride, dignity, and shared value.
Looking ahead, OSPE will continue advocating for the profession through Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS), pushing for procurement models that prioritize expertise, quality, and public safety over low cost alone. Together, the fee guidelines and QBS advocacy form part of a broader effort to elevate the engineering profession and secure the respect and recognition it deserves.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers who made this possible. Your voices, commitment, and leadership have strengthened the engineering community and helped pave the way for a stronger, more united future.
