We’re here to help you land your dream job by connecting you with hiring employers in your field.

These E3s will give you the opportunity to network with and be interviewed by experienced professionals from the public sector. This could be your first step to landing a career with the Government of Canada.

OSPE has put together a summary of some job ads created by Transport Canada. Keep on reading to get a better sense of the types of roles available.

  • Civil Aviation at Transport Canada

a) Being an Engineer in Civil Aviation

As an aerospace engineer, you will evaluate a variety of aerospace products, including small and large commercial airplanes and helicopters and remotely piloted aircraft and rotorcrafts. You will review proposals for projects to determine if they are technically feasible and whether they will result in safe aircraft operation and systems.  You will also develop new design standards to cater for new materials and technologies, prepare specifications for the materials and processes that are to be used in the manufacturing of these products and systems, and ensure they meet quality standards.

b) What Transport Canada is Looking For

At this point in time, Civil Aviation is seeking a range of engineering candidates from junior to seasoned experts. Positions involve a diverse portfolio of projects with many aircraft types from numerous manufacturers that will call on your knowledge of existing and developing technologies.

  • Railway Safety at Transport Canada

a) Being an Engineer in Railway Safety

Rail Safety is responsible for advancing the safety of the Canadian rail transportation system through regulations, oversight and outreach.

As a Rail Safety Engineer, you will play a direct role in advancing safety on the rail transportation system in Canada, and you will get to work first hand on standards development and on oversight planning and implementation, which are the basis upon which rail safety is improved. Your job will include interfacing with key stakeholders including, Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), Canadian National Railway (CN), VIA Rail and more. You play a key role in a team that has staff across the country overseeing an industry that moves millions of passengers and more than $280 billion worth of goods in Canada each year.

b) What Transport Canada is Looking For

We look forward to recruiting engineers with knowledge or experience in bridge infrastructure, railway infrastructure, and the design and application of communication protocols between vehicles, traffic management principles, and train control systems.  In addition to technical skills, our engineers have well-rounded qualities that can be applied both in the office and in the field. These include strategic thinking, good judgement and strong writing skills.

Presently the career opportunities are for our headquarters in Ottawa, and our regional offices in Toronto and Montreal. The needs are immediate in Ottawa and Toronto and in the longer term in Montreal.

  • Connected & Automated Vehicle Technologies at Transport Canada

a) Being a Chief Engineer in Connected & Automated Vehicle Technologies

Connected and automated vehicles will revolutionize mobility, and have profound implications for our economy, labour markets and quality of life.  As Chief Engineer, Connected & Automated Vehicle Technologies, you will work with industry, provinces, municipalities and other stakeholders to help shape the future of Canada’s transportation system.  You will lead a team of engineers, policy analysts and other specialists to help shape the Government of Canada’s technical, program and policy approaches to these new innovations.

b) What Transport Canada is Looking For

We’re looking for candidates with 5 years of experience in connected and/or automated vehicle engineering, automotive engineering and/or cybersecurity. Candidates should have experience in areas like computer, electrical, robotics and systems integration engineering. Experience in developing application prototypes for automated or connected vehicle technologies, either in-lab or in-vehicle, is also an asset.
