As Canada heads toward the 2025 federal election, OSPE has submitted letters to the leaders of all major political parties, identifying the issues that are most meaningful to the engineering community. Our recommendations highlight how engineers are essential to solving national challenges, from infrastructure and energy to workforce development and innovation.
OSPE’s Key Priorities:
- Strengthen Canada’s Engineering Workforce: Support co-ops and work-integrated learning, bridging programs for internationally educated engineers, and upskilling for displaced professionals.
- Build Smart, Resilient Infrastructure: Fund long-term, climate-ready infrastructure and adopt Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS) for engineering contracts.
- Advance Clean Tech & Innovation: Invest in made-in-Canada solutions like electrification, nuclear sustainability, carbon capture, and grid modernization.
- Champion Equity & Inclusion in STEM: Increase support for women, Indigenous Peoples, and racialized professionals in engineering and STEM fields.
- Protect Engineers & Strengthen Trade Resilience: Clarify professional liability standards and oppose unjustified tariffs on key engineering materials.
OSPE is committed to working with all parties to ensure the engineering profession helps build a more sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready Canada.
