Dear OSPE Members,
OSPE is in continuous contact with our members, industry partners and government to assess the current situation on infrastructure projects as it relates to COVID-19. While some infrastructure sites have closed, others are remaining operational for the time being. OSPE believes that project owners, contractors, subcontractors and engineers on site are the best equipped to review their site specific situation and determine when is the best time to close these sites for health and safety related concerns. With this in mind, OSPE has been working with the other members of the Construction Design and Alliance of Ontario to establish a working document which contains some best practices and other resources for employers and managers to put in place to protect their employees and others who may come into contact with them.

We encourage OSPE members to review these and share them with their networks who are engaged in the infrastructure sector.
OSPE, through the CDAO, is also working on providing guidance to the government of Ontario on other provisions they should be putting in place to protect all involved parties. This includes a provision to include the COVID-19 Pandemic and the ensuing State of Emergency as conditions to meet the Force Majeure clause in contracts.
