Calling All Professional OSPE Members – Help Accelerate Reform at PEO by Running for Council

Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) has reached out to OSPE to encourage our Professional members to run in the 2022 PEO Council Elections.

As PEO continues to reaffirm its focus on regulating the practice of professional engineering, having active and engaged OSPE members who understand the distinction between advocacy and regulation as part of PEO Council would help accelerate the process of implementing change.

PEO recognizes OSPE’s role as the advocacy body for the profession and has asked for our assistance to seek out OSPE members who are Professional Engineers and are committed to completing the regulatory and governance transformation of PEO to that of a modern regulator.

Nominations are now being accepted for a variety of positions on PEO Council until Friday, November 26 at 4 p.m.

For more information, please see a note from Nancy Hill, P.Eng., Chair, Central Election and Search Committee, Professional Engineers Ontario, below.

Dear PEO licence holder,

Are you passionate about engineering? Do you value PEO’s role of protecting the public interest?

Here’s your opportunity to join PEO Council and help shape the regulator’s future as it undergoes its most significant transformation since its creation in 1922, which has included Council’s shift to a direction and control governance board as part of its commitment to a two-year governance renewal roadmap.

PEO is seeking candidates for the 2022 Council elections that reflect the diversity of its membership and who can provide a balanced perspective and problem-solving attitude to all discussions, are knowledgeable about board governance and understand the principles behind professional self-regulation.

Nominations are now being accepted for a variety of positions until November 26 at 4 p.m.

Under the authority of the Professional Engineers Act, PEO governs its 91,500 licence and certificate holders and regulates professional engineering in Ontario to protect the public interest. The Government of Ontario looks to PEO Council to provide the necessary oversight to ensure PEO fulfills its mandate.

Generally, Council meets at least four times a year, although additional meetings/workshops are scheduled as necessary. As a member of Council, you will also:

Develop and drive PEO’s strategic direction;

Approve PEO’s budget;

Provide direction on regulatory priorities; and

Ensure the responsible use of resources to effectively regulate the practice of engineering.

If you have the time, knowledge, skills and desire to serve your profession at the highest level, we invite you to help build a stronger PEO by seeking a position on Council or by nominating a qualified colleague.

Visit the Council elections page at www.peo.on.ca/about-peo/council/council-elections to learn more, including details on how to participate in a virtual open house on November 10.

Sincerely,

Nancy E. Hill, P.Eng., LL.B., FEC, FCAE, Prof. Dir.

Chair, Central Election and Search Committee Professional Engineers Ontario
