We believe in turning ideas into action and shaping initiatives that address the real challenges engineers face in Ontario. One such example is an initiative launched by our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) Task Force, which focused on supporting International Engineering Graduates (IEGs).
After months of brainstorming and input from our members, we’re excited to announce the launch of a new initiative designed to create a meaningful dialogue between IEGs and OSPE, beginning with two key events on February 26, 2025.
February 26: Starting the Conversation
On February 26, OSPE will host two meetups aimed at starting the conversation about how we can better support IEGs:
1. Lunch Hour Meetup (Online – 12:00 PM)
This one-hour session will provide IEGs with an opportunity to connect with one another and with OSPE, fostering a sense of community and shared experiences.
2. Evening Session (In Person – 6:00 PM)
In this longer session, we’ll dive deeper into the challenges IEGs face and how OSPE can help. Attendees will hear an inspiring story from an IEG who successfully navigated the path to becoming a licensed engineer in Ontario. We’ll also share valuable resources and information on topics such as:
-
- The Canadian Bridge Accreditation (CBA) process
- The Practice Evaluation and Knowledge (PEAK) program and Multi-Jurisdictional Practice Evaluations (MPPE)
- Job opportunities and career development
- The path to licensing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), with representatives from PEO joining us for the event
These events are not just about sharing resources; they’re about building a foundation for ongoing dialogue and action. This is the launch of a broader conversation between IEGs and OSPE. By starting with these sessions, we aim to better understand the needs of our members and create tailored solutions that address their challenges and aspirations.
