OSPE’s Annual MPP Reception and Lobby Day 2024

The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers held our annual Lobby Day and MPP Reception on March 6, 2024, at the Queen’s Park Legislative Assembly. With a focus on advocating for policies that foster innovation, sustainability, and economic growth, engineers from diverse fields converged to engage with Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) on key issues affecting the profession and broader society. This event served as a platform for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and advocacy, demonstrating engineers’ vital role in driving positive change for Ontario’s future.

Throughout the day, OSPE and volunteer Subject Matter Experts met with key MPPs in scheduled meetings to advocate for specific policy proposals, legislative changes, and funding priorities relevant to the engineering profession and broader community. This year, topics we advocated for included: strategies to enhance gender diversity in engineering, updates to the Professional Engineers Act, priority permitting for housing and construction projects that prioritize the re-use of materials, legislation to enhance indoor air quality, funding to innovative wastewater solutions like Decentralized Wastewater Treatment and strategies to reduce Ontario’s Greenhouse Gas emissions.

This event is a critical piece of our annual advocacy strategy for our members and the engineering community. Thank you to all the representatives for engaging and thank you to all our amazing volunteers who participated.

Stay tuned for photos, highlights, and successes from the MPP reception and our meetings.
