CANDIDATE STATEMENT

I am honoured by and excited for the opportunity to serve on the OSPE Board of Directors.  Ontario’s professional engineering community requires strong leadership and advocacy to ensure that the next generation of engineers will continue to have an influential role in our society.  Now, more than ever, it is critically important that environmental issues be brought to the forefront of policy discussions with government and industry leaders in order to advance key initiatives related to environmental protection, brownfield redevelopment, and climate change action.  Engineers are uniquely qualified to bridge the gap between science and public policy – our informed and practical approach to problem-solving, coupled with professional communication skills and credibility, allows us to drive smart policy ideas forward.

My experience as an Environmental Engineer has provided me with an understanding of the significant challenges and opportunities facing Ontario’s engineering profession, including a wide variety of environmental, social, and economic issues.  As an Environmental Consultant, I was a trusted advisor for public and private clients from various sectors of the economy.  Environmental Consulting provided me with a “full-circle” understanding of the environmental/social/economic cycle – in some cases, I was the first person on-site to characterize a greenfield property for development, and in other cases I was the last person on-site to document the decommissioning of a brownfield site or to develop a remedial action plan for soil and groundwater contamination issues.  In my current role as an Environmental Contractor, I am focused on the mitigation, remediation, and restoration of environmental impacts through the implementation of effective remedial technologies, including in-situ/ex-situ remediation, boundary controls, and risk management measures.  The key to any effective solution is its sustainability – choosing the right approach for today and for the future.

I believe that I have the personal drive, qualifications, and pragmatism to become an effective leader on the OSPE Board of Directors.  If elected, my goal would be to support and elevate the role of Professional Engineers in Ontario through effective dialogue and consensus-based decision making.  Engineering is based on the practical application of scientific knowledge to provide solutions to societal needs – with the right representation and advocacy, Engineers can change the world!

Please join me in voting in the upcoming OSPE Board of Directors election.  Thank you for your consideration and support.
